What is Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare which is specifically concerned with the prevention, assessment, management and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. This includes injuries sustained in the workplace, at home and in sport. The main goal of our sports therapists is to return our patients back to their optimum levels of health and fitness, regardless of their age or ability. We utilise principles of sports science and physical therapy medicine to do so.

Sports Therapy is a distinct occupational profession and is separate to other professions such as physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, chiropractic therapy and osteopathy. As health professionals, we have the knowledge, skills and ability to assess, treat and rehabilitate injuries, implement sports and exercise principles to optimise health, performance and injury prevention and provide appropriate soft tissue interventions.

What do we treat?

We treat a variety of different musculoskeletal conditions. Some of our most frequently treated conditions include lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, plantar fasciitis and osteoarthritis. As well as these conditions, we treat sporting injuries, including ligament sprains, muscle strains and tendinopathies. We also have experience treating some nerve related conditions such as sciatica, cervical radiculopathy and piriformis syndrome.

Here at Kinetic though, we prefer to not just treat the symptoms of your injury but to treat the person as well. Our approach is holistic and works towards identifying and treating the root cause of your problems, so that your symptoms don’t return in the future.

What happens during a consultation/treatment session?

Your first consultation will last approximately 45-60 minutes and will consist of a thorough assessment of your issues and will include treatment. Even though this first session is likely the first time we meet you, or have seen you in a while, there will still be a substantial amount of time for treatment.

Any follow up treatment sessions will last approximately 45 minutes and will consist of mostly treatment. As our main assessment will have taken place during your consultation appointment, only a short time will be spent at the beginning and end of your follow up session reassessing your condition to make sure you are on track and making the progress we would expect to see.
